Tis the season to let let your fishing gear ROT! The winter months spell trouble for your tackle box and reel, but you can avoid damage to your gear by simply taking a few hours to disassemble your hardware and clean it thoroughly.
Products needed:
Paper towels, Gear Oil, (they sell specialized reel oil) De-Greaser, New Fishing Line
Although all reels are not built the same, the way to disassemble a basic spinning reel is fairly straight forward. Remove the spool by unscrewing the drag control unit. Upon removal, carefully clean out the "gunk" that seems to always accumulate under the drag setting. Remove all line from your spool, and attach new line with the help from a buddy.
