IBM Pond

The IBM complex off Phoenixville Pike hosts two retaining ponds that house an array of fish usually found in larger bodies of water. This 19inch largemouth bass is one example of the ample wildlife in the water, while on this same day my friend caught a 11inch crappie. Caught on a jointed Rapala, I had to fool  this fish into striking.

Chambers Lake

Chambers Lake is located northwest of the West Chester Borough. If you have
a hitch and boat, i would strongly recommend loading the truck up and hauling
your gear to this great lake. It hosts a variety of species and has depths that
allow you to choose any fishing style you want, from top water chugging to
deep diving plugging. Don’t have a boat? No worries because this lake also features
spots to fish from the shore.

End of Season Sales

Its inevitable. Your favorite lure will get caught in a tree.

SAVE $$$$ by purchasing your tackle during the off season.

Keep It Clean Please

Tis the season to let let your fishing gear ROT! The winter months spell trouble for your tackle box and reel, but you can avoid damage to your gear by simply taking a few hours to disassemble your hardware and clean it thoroughly.
Products needed:
Paper towels, Gear Oil, (they sell specialized reel oil) De-Greaser, New Fishing Line

Although all reels are not built the same, the way to disassemble a basic spinning reel is fairly straight forward. Remove the spool by unscrewing the drag control unit. Upon removal, carefully clean out the "gunk" that seems to always accumulate under the drag setting. Remove all line from your spool, and attach new line with the help from a buddy.

Tests of Patience in the Waning days of Fishing

With the warm, hazy days of summer gone, so goes the feeding frenzy that makes summer fishing so exciting. Bugs no longer fly above the water, and the baby fish born earlier in the season are now ready to become next year’s catch. Not to despair though, because it is the time of year to catch the biggest bass in the ponds! The females are eating for the winter and, if fished in the right time, they can be caught. Avoid using the bright greens and yellow lures that work so effectively in the hot summer months. Switch to red, white and dark orange stick baits. Floating or non-floating, depending on depth of water, these lures should give you some action in the early morning hours. Life in the pond or lake has grown since the summer, so also switching to larger looking frogs, mice and other lifelike lures should also help you cause.
Use the "chugging" or popping technique to exploit the true to life movements of the now grown up frogs and mice.

The Dam

The picture above is why I have started this forum. It is the Dam/Spillway pond located on the corner of Greenhill and Hershey Mill road. Fishing for bass, catfish, carp and bluegills was an everyday occurrence for me, my family, and my friends. It was a stunningly beautiful place to just go and relax and reflect on life in general. It was drained to eliminate flooding in the East Goshen area, including the estate houses at Hershey Mill's. The township has received information from the EGT board of supervisors on how to make the dam safe for the community, but nothing has been done to fix the problem. This has not only impacted my life, but it has affected the wildlife in the county of East Goshen, disrupted the ecosystem, and disrupted the path of migratory birds in our area.

I write this to inform the public that more needs to be done to ensure that great places for fishing are never lost again. We must preserve the environment for the generations that will follow ours. Fishing is a positive outlet for everybody who takes part in it, and it supports good conservation habits for our country.
